The gospel is specific
When I ask Christians what the gospel is I get an array of answers rarely connected with what the Bible says. I find this disturbing as the gospel is the foundation of our faith.
Most Christians are vague about what the gospel is and seem to have little or no understanding of what the Bible says the gospel is or what the Bible says we are to preach to the lost. In the end Christians are preaching all sorts of strange ideas or are not preaching at all.
The specific content of the Gospel is very clearly laid out for us in 1Corinthians 15:1-4. It is very similar to what Jesus said in Luke 24:46,47. Most Christains are totally unaware of these passages and their importance. The result is false teaching on the gospel goes unchallenged and is rampant.
What can we do about this?
